When sadness looms and things go wrong
The heart begins to ache,
Discouragements become so strong;
Go on for Jesus’ sake.

When friendships turn behind your back
The sanctioned soul will shake,
Distress ensued and future black,
Go on for Jesus’ sake.

When light affliction gets us down
Or dignity’s at stake,
Remember nails and cross and crown,
Go on for Jesus’ sake.

When sufferings of this present time
Are more than I can take,
The groaning of the Spirit say,
