Fwd: Gems From My Reading - 4971

"Be of good cheer."

"Occupy till I come."
(Luke 19:13)

Which is most worthy to occupy our thoughts -
the littleness of our love
or the fullness of that love which passes knowledge?

Sword-stroke

New birth:

Faith may come simultaneously with the sword-stroke, but the wound does not cause the sword-stroke, but the sword-stroke the wound.

Grampa is with the Lord, August 27, 2012

The day before his 87th birthday, Grampa went home to be with the Lord. Probably the best birthday present ever! It was Ethan's 6th birthday!
Comfort of the Scriptures
Monday, August 27
“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Col. 1:27).
“Christ in you”! Who among God’s redeemed children can fathom it! “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.” Yet God’s Word assures me that “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.” Our Lord promised that “I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth. ... If a man love Me, He will keep My words: and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make Our abode with him.” Paul’s prayer for the saints is “that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith ... and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.” “Christ in you.” “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!”
Christ lives within me:
Oh what grace! More than my heart can comprehend;
Such knowledge fills me with His love;
I long to serve Him to the end.

Grampa drank this until they took it off the market and he decided hot chocolate would do.

Fwd: Gems From My Reading - 4891

"Be of Good Cheer."

"Be careful for nothing; but in everything  by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known unto God."
(Philippians 4:6)

He would have us, in the intimacy of His love,
to be without reserve before Him - all told out, nothing kept back.
Our danger never lies in telling Him too much, but just in the opposite direction.
He loves to hear the cry of His children,
for he well knows that it is the expression of their confidence in Him.
It may be, as it often is, a foolish cry, but still it is the cry of His own children,
 and He never wearies of listening to it.

Hymn#225

1. ' MID scenes of confusion, and creature-complaints,
How sweet to the soul is communion with saints;
To find at the banquet of mercy there’s room,
To feel in communion a foretaste of home.

2 Sweet bonds that unite all the children of peace!
And thrice-blessed Saviour whose love cannot cease!
Though oft amid trials and dangers we roam,
With Thine we’re united, and hasting towards home.

3 While here, in the valley of conflict, we stay,
O give us submission and strength as the day:
Soon free from afflictions, to Thee we shall come,
And find with our Saviour a heavenly home.

4 Whate’er Thou deniest, O give us Thy grace,
Thy Spirit’s blest witness, the smiles of Thy face;
And grant us still patience to wait at Thy throne,
And find, never-ceasing, the foretaste of home.

5 We wait, blessed Lord in Thy beauties to shine,
To see Thee in glory—the glory divine;
With all Thy redeemed, from the earth, from the tomb,
To be to Thy praise, blessed Saviour at home.

Click on the pictures to enlarge and read.

On May 9, 1970, Uncle Bill and cousin Tim (age 13yrs.), went home to be with the Lord in a car accident. That left Gail, Sandra, Barrie and Shannon without their precious father and brother. They each know their dear Father, who cares for them daily.
Are you ready to leave at any time?

Be Still, my soul...

Be Still, My Soul

Be still, my soul; the Lord is on your side;

Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;

Leave to your God to order and provide;

... In every change he faithful will remain.

Be still, my soul; your best, your heavenly Friend

Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul; your God will undertake

To guide the future as he has the past.

Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;

All now mysterious shall be bright at last.

Be still, my soul; the waves and wind still know

His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

Be still, my soul; though dearest friends depart

And all is darkened in the vale of tears;

Then you will better know his love, his heart,

Who comes to soothe your sorrows and your fears.

Be still, my soul; your Jesus can repay

From his own fullness all he takes away.

Be still, my soul; the hour is hastening on

When we shall be forever with the Lord,

When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,

Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.

Be still, my soul; when change and tears are past,

All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

When I was very young...

When I was very young it seemed, I failed to understand
When some things very dear to me, were taken from my hand....
Not that I was punished for refusing to let go,
But my Father chose to lead me In another path to grow

From infant things I treasured to another step before
Leading me to higher things, beyond an open door.
From childhood to youth until, adulthood came my way,
Where home, NEW FRIENDS and family, added blessings to my day!

Yet I have learned that even these are treasurers for a time,
And when the season's over, they are taken from the vine.
AGAIN my Father leads me as He gently has before
Into another path that leads, through yet another door ...

Beyond the things, I once held dear, until IN HIM I find
Such fellowship that passing things, I willingly resign.
Ever PRESSING ON until I see my Saviour's face,
When with the saints in glory, I shall sing 'AMAZING GRACE'

The Touch of the Master's Hand

The Touch Of The Master's Hand
Myra B. Welch

Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer
thought it scarcely worth his while
To waste much time on the old violin,
But held it up with a smile.
"What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,
"Who'll start the bidding for me?
A dollar, a dollar, then, two! Only two?
Two dollars, and who'll make it three?
Three dollars, once; three dollars, twice;
Going for three . . ."
But no,
From the room, far back, a grey-haired man
Came forward and picked up the bow;
Then, wiping the dust from the old violin,
And tightening the loose strings,
He played a melody pure and sweet
As a caroling angel sings.

The music ceased, and the auctioneer,
With a voice that was quiet and low, said:
"What am I bid for the old violin?"
And he held it up with the bow.
"A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two?
"Two thousand! And who'll make it three?
"Three thousand, once; three thousand, twice;
And going and gone."said he.

The people cheered, but some of them cried,
"We do not quite understand, what changed its worth?"
Swift came the reply:
"The Touch Of The Master's Hand."

And many a man with life out of tune,
And battered and scarred with sin,
Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd,
Much like the old violin.
A 'mess of potage,' a glass of wine;
A game - and he travels on.
He is 'going' once, and 'going' twice,
He's 'going' and almost 'gone'.
But the Master comes and the foolish crowd
Never can quite understand
The worth of a soul and the change that's wrought
By the touch of the Master's Hand.

A Popular Place!

The Son of God, by David C. Brown

"...the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
         Galatians 2:20

THE SON OF GOD

When I was bound by darkness
Beneath a load of sin
With judgement as my prospect
And fearfulness within
Who shone upon my darkness?
Who worked to set me free?
The Son of God who loved me
And gave Himself for me.

I'm longing for the moment
When all the ransomed crowds,
Arising into glory,
Will meet Him in the clouds;
How wonderful the moment
When blissfully I see
The Son of God who loved me
And gave Himself for me.

He is the Lord of glory
And is the Prince of peace,
Creator and Redeemer,
Whose wonders will not cease:
Wonder of grace and mercy
That such a One should be
The Son of God who loved me
And gave Himself for me.

O Father, make me like Him,
The Man of thy delight!
O Holy Spirit guide me
Where he will be my Light!
Help me, my Lord and master
To be conformed to Thee
The Son of God who loved me
And gave Himself for me!

Will or shall?

In the first person simply "shall" foretells,
In "will" a threat or else a promise dwells.
"Shall"  in the second and third does threat,
"Will" simply then foretells the future feat.

Fwd: Gems From My Reading - 4695

Stand thou still a while, that I may show thee the word of God.  1 Samuel 9:27
I need to spend more time...

"Be of good cheer."

"As Thou hast went me Me into the world, even so have I sent them into the world."
(John 17:18)

"As My Father hath sent Me, even so send I you."
(John 20:21)

Such is the Christian's Mission.

A Christian is not to shut himself within the walls of a monastery or convent.  Christianity does not consist in joining a brotherhood or a sisterhood.  Nothing of the kind.  We are called to move up and down in the varied relations of life, and to act in our Divinely appointed spheres, to the glory of God.  It is not a question of what we we are doing, but of how we do it.  All depends upon the object which governs our heart.

If Christ be the commanding and absorbing object of the heart, all will be right; if He be not, nothing is right.  Two persons may sit down at the same table to eat; the one eats to gratify his appetite, the other eats to the glory of God - eats simply to keep his body in proper working order as God's vessel, the temple of the Holy Spirit, the instrument for Christ's service.

So in everything.  It is our sweet privilege to set the Lord always before us.  He is our model.  As He was sent into the world, so are we.  What did He come to do?  To glorify God.  How did He live?  By the Father.

"As the living Father hath sent Me, and I live by the Father, so he that eateth Me, even he shall live by Me" (John 6:57).
